Passing of a S'pore titan: Former deputy prime minister Goh Keng Swee died yesterday at about 5am in his Siglap home after prolonged illnesses. He was 91.
A SINGAPORE titan dies - and a nation mourns once more the passing of an era.

Former deputy prime minister Goh Keng Swee died yesterday at about 5am in his Siglap home after prolonged illnesses. He was 91.

His wife, Dr Phua Swee Liang, 71, has been his personal caregiver since he suffered a stroke which incapacitated him about 10 years ago. He was also diabetic. He leaves a son, Kian Chee, 66, and daughter-in-law, two grandsons and three great-grandsons.

His teary widow told reporters she felt numb after his death.

'All these years I have been personally involved with Dr Goh. He's a very private person,' she said.

She had favoured a private funeral but deferred to a request from the Government conveyed by Foreign Minister George Yeo for a state funeral to allow Singaporeans to pay their respects to a founding father of the nation.
