Senior Minister of State for Health, Dr Balaji Sadasivan, is at it again.
In today's Straits Times article "Gay parties may have led to sharp rise in new Aids cases", it says that
"THERE was a sharp rise in new Aids cases last year and it could be linked to a popular annual 'gay party' on Sentosa, Dr Balaji Sadasivan said yesterday, quoting an unnamed expert...
Dr Balaji said an epidemiologist - an expert in the spread and control of diseases - had suggested to him that the spike might be linked to the Nation parties held every August on Sentosa...
He added: 'However, this is a hypothesis and more research needs to be done."
So is AIDS a gay problem? It is definitely not entirely a gay problem. There are many other causes and I think the gahment should tackle them in all aspects.
And since the Dr says that the gahment should not be making "sweeping statements that misinform the public" and they have "never targeted any of its Aids campaigns at gay men" and they "should focus on education", I believe the gahment is doing their best to tackle the AIDS problem and not just link the sharp rise in new Aids cases last year to a "popular annual gay party on Sentosa".
Oh BTW should it be AIDS or Aids? I thought it is an acronym. I dunno, I need to be educated.

I have been in the biomedical industry for a long time.
If AIDs is a homosexual problem then why are hetrosexaul male/female , aged 17-24 yrs old the now highest at risk group for contracting the disease?
There are several sides to this story. Many causes.
* group sex among teens has become popular, many believe oral sex cannot transmit. {WRONG!} Rufis & sex in general has become an easy game. People do not think about consequences.
* AIDs has spread hetrosexually in smaller war & poverty ridden countries [like ghana in Africa] due to lack of education of safe sex, myths & gossip about the real causes of the disease. [for example In some cultures there are actual held beliefs that if you are a strong man you cannot conrtact the disease] Poverty is a major cause - no jobs or money, women turn to prostitution and the men they sleep with pay more to have sex without a condom. These same men in turn , may have jobs traveling to neighboring towns & the cycle is repeated.
* Introvenious drug use [shooting up with infected needles; using a straw to snort cocaine/party drugs [that has been passed around can come in contact with your nasal cavity & infect you (must have traces of blood/body fluids)
* high statistics of medical professionals who get accidental needle exsposure [from infected needles]
* a rogue attitude about the disease - no care for your fellow man, people ignore their diagnosis & have sex freely. Infecting as many as they can.
* society has created a sick need for sexual fetishes... people secretly sleeping with prostitutes or randoms.
If you ask me this is not a Gay problem. It is an education problem --- !
