of good service medal

In the army, medals are given to personnels for good conduct or exemplary service. One such medal is the SAF Good Service Medal.

At the Mindef website, the caption for this medal says
"This medal may be awarded to a serving member of the SAF in recognition of 5 years of good, efficient and faithful service in the SAF."

How to check the value of medals given to National Service personnel? Take a look at this eBay auction.

For NSmen out there, this medal is stamp-chop-confirm will get one. So cannot blame the person (if you are the recipient of the medal) who put this medal up for auction.

At least I still have mine. It's somewhere in the house. But I don't know where I dumped it.

Do you know where you kept your medal?

  1. I cannot understand why anyone would want to buy someone's medal. The medal is a testament to the owners valor, service or whatever. I do not see it as just pretty ribbons and shiny metal.

  2. In the Republic of Singapura, I think service medals are worthless. The medals that are really worth the pride are those medals of honour gained in real wars. I don't mind getting a monetary bonus for 5 years of service instead.

  5. pok ku: This medal is exceptional. It's a common 'gift' in our army. :)
    You feeling better already?

jayaxe: Ya. If it's money then it's a different story.

woof!: At least you know where is yours. I still couldn't find mine.

agent x: Hee hee. Become scrap metal. The medal is metallic right? I can't remember. Think I didn't even touched it.

  6. yan, the time will come. But you can pray that they screw things up. My friend, in the combat vocation, hasn't been called up for 8 yrs.

  7. I agree with Bustaman, actually. Winning a medal in the Olympics and buying a replica of EBay are two totally different things. The true "medals" in our lives are our friends. Because they reflect the consequences of the choices we make :)
