of malaysia 2nd finance minister says singaporeans are foreign smugglers

Malaysia says foreign cars will pay more for fuel: In an interview with Bernama, Malaysia's Second Finance Minister Nor Mohamed Yakcop talks about the fuel subsidy reform plan to be announced before the 2009 national budget.

nor mohamed yakcopNor Yakcop tells Bernama,
No it wouldn't. Tourists who come in, they can certainly buy (petrol) in non-border towns ... there is no problem but in the border towns ... there has been absolute misuse by people along the border who come and buy and go off to sell back (the petrol) to their country.

Nor Yakcop continues to say,
WHY SHOULD WE GIVE SUBSIDIES TO FOREIGN SMUGGLERS.

  1. My lord, just an open comment on the title. Seems, it may leads to a certain extend of misunderstanding and bend the actually meaning on a very high degree.
In the full interview as read from the news paper, TV as well as all reliable news source, he never mention "Singaporeans".
He said in his earlier sentense, people who go buy and sell back to their country.
Just share with you what we saw when we went to the land of "Tiger" last year. There are people drive into our neighbour with a lory of empty container, and bring back with a full load of estimated 12 barrel of gas.
    That is what happening there.
Earlier, they did mentioned they understand only less than 0.5% of us here are hardcode fans of their Petrol. The rest of 30% bring them a good income. And they did hints, they have no choice but to be fair to both their neighbours.
They need rice and some other material from their the other neighbour. Just like we need lots of things from them.
If their neighbour get offended, we also not in good position... not sure if you heard about a channel might be open cut thru the city of angel? If they not happy and make that happen, we will lose a lot of ship.
Now you should know why the all-white party never voice anything at all. Bcos they know worst thing yet to come.
Sorry for this long winded comment. It might not be publish but I am sure you are reading it.
    Thx.

  2. kbuzz: You're points are valid. Yes he did not mention Singaporeans. Hmm I should have put a question mark behind my post topic. :)

BTW I don't see that statement in Bernama but that statement appeared elsewhere in other news sites.
