The STOMPer said:
"Last month 28/05/08, I was at Changi Airport Terminal 1.
"After checking in, I was walking around the duty free shops. And to my surprise, I saw four monks shopping in the Gucci boutique.
"Instantly I took out my digital camera and snapped p a picture.
"I was wondering, are monks allowed to buy branded goods?"
He wonders also at the bigger question:
"And where do they get the money to spend on such expensive products?"
Is this a bogus monk then, asks a STOMPer, who came across this sight.
YC Ngor told STOMP:
"Saw this monk queuing to place a bet at the Singapore Pools outlet.
"A policeman was walking past that shop and was caught in the shot.
"Did he stop to think if that monk is a fake (given the recent issues of fake monks and nuns in Geylang area)? Go figure."
Monks balloting for bargain laptops and LCD television sets
STOMPer Ken was at Best Denki at Ngee Ann City when he came across several monks balloting for a chance to buy laptops and a 37-inch LCD television set.
"I was surprised to see Buddhist monks at the recent opening of Best Denki at Ngee Ann City balloting for a chance to buy some cheap laptops and 37-inch LCD television sets.
"I thought that monks were supposed to live a frugal lifestyle but it seems they are indulging in high tech IT products and gadgets.
"So watch out for what type of monks you donate to when they beg at your neighbourhood."
