of china successfully launches rocket, sends first woman into space

Shenzhou-9 was launched at 6:37 pm (1037 GMT) from the remote Gobi desert. The crew comprise taikonauts Jing Haipeng, Liu Wang and Liu Yang.

The crew plans to conduct manual docking manoeuvres between Shenzhou-9 and the Tiangong-1.
