George Feigley, who was released from prison Friday, is the subject of community protests.
George Feigley, now 68, was convicted in 1975 on charges including statutory rape, indecent assault and corrupting the morals of minors.
Because Feigley's 1975 conviction predated the passage of Megan's Law, he will not be required to register as a sex offender. And, having served his maximum sentence, he was not put on parole upon his release.
Feigley's Neo American Church, which authorities have called a sex cult, operated a school in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, that police said was a front for sexual activity.
This is the way the law works -- you cannot punish someone for a crime they committed before the law was present. For instance... if you molest children and are convicted of said crime BEFORE a law states that you have to register as a sex offender, then you do not have to register as a sex offender. If next year, there is a law that all male sex offenders should get their penises lopped off... well all the currently convicted should not lose their penises, as the law did not stipulate the punishment at the time of the crime. The goal of a law serves two purposes in this example: (1) serve as punishment to those who convicted a crime and (2) serve as a deterrent for people who may commit the crime.
ReplyDeleteSorry, that is the way it is... if he molests another child, he will get on the list!
Lastly, has the sex offender list really done anything to protect children? I don't think there is any proof that it does anything more than serve as a scarlet letter. You can chase a child molester out of your town, but he will just move to another neighboring town....
OK, you are right, that's the way the law works. However, the way the law should work is you give this POS to the families of the children he molested and let them do what they want with him, up to and including executing him. (You have got to love the old Mikado code.) No worse criminal than the one who preys oon a child.
ReplyDeleteOh...and teh way to stop him from moving to another town...make sure he's not able to move due to acute lead poisoning; preferably from a .40cal S&W.
