Al-Matin Mohamed was struck by a vehicle trying to evade police while he was riding his bike. Al-Matin Mohamed — who recently moved to the city to train as a pastry chef — was riding in a bike lane when a 2004 Infiniti came speeding toward him. The car plowed into Mohamed, tossing him across the street and onto the sidewalk. Emergency workers took Mohamed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was being treated for head trauma, two broken legs, a fractured pelvis and a busted arm.
Mohamed was working a one-month stint with pastry chefs at Le Bernardin. He had recently transferred from a similar apprenticeship at a restaurant in Australia.

Maybe it was an accident or a reckless driver.
