Xiaxue swept two awards (Region's Best Blog and Most Influential Blog) at the Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards 2011 held last week.

Australian blogger Melissa444 has issues and posted them on her blog (The Things I'd Tell You).
Nuffnang, is this really the kind of blog you want to promote as the best Nuffnang blog? The best blog the Asia Pacific has to offer? Fair enough if you want some of the votes to be reader based, popularity votes. But calling that blog the 'best' blog in the Asia Pacific is mortifying to other blogs. To think that a person like this should be awarded for her blog is akin to giving Paris Hilton an Oscar for her acting skills. It's absurd. And demoralising to think that this is the kind of thing you're drawn to.....So clearly Nuffnang and other promoters, and tens of thousands of readers have no issue with following and supporting the blog of someone who uses consistently foul and racist language on her blog. After all - she's the 'best'.
Read more of what Melissa444 blogged (Oh Come ON!!!!)

Xiaxue responded to Melissa's comments in her blog. Read So many angry Australians

Melissa wrote another post to clear some air.
My issue was with "Best Regional Blog". It intimated to me that Nuffnang were saying that this meant that Xiaxue's blog was literally 'the best blog in the Asia-Pacific Region'. That surprised me, as there is very little strong content, and in her own words, is not meant to be taken seriously. When I hear "best" (for example "Best Actor", "Best Movie", "Best Actress", I assume that that means it has been judged to be best. By an unbiased panel of judges. As such, I was surprised (and disappointed that a blog like like this could be chosen) with the result.

But it's ok. Nuffnang has already cleared that up.....

Star bloggers reveal naughty secrets: Starbloggers Jamie Yeo, Dawn Yang, Sheylara and Maia Lee reveals their deepest and darkest secrets. The boldest was Maia Lee who revealed her sex tyrsts.

Maia said,
I cannot remember all the places I have had sex at, but I know we were not always behind closed doors. I can only remember when we did it in Marina Square, on the spiral staircase near the overhead bridge to Suntec. It was about 9 or 10pm and no one bothered to go up those staircases anyway. We could hear people walking by but I kept assuring him we wouldn't get caught.
Read Maia's post (titled "I Had Sex At Marina Square") here.

For Jamie Yeo, she revealed in her entry (titled "I hid Hello Kitty in my underwear!") that she shoplifted and stuffed her stolen items in her underwear.

For Dawn Yang, she talks about clubbing, skinny dipping and posing for Maxim. Read her entry ("Good Girls Go to Heaven, Bad Girls Go Everywhere") here.

In her blog post ("A confession I hope my dad won’t read"), Sheylara reveals bringing a guy to her hostel room while she was studying in Australia.

Google acquires ReCaptcha as book-scanning aid: Google has acquired ReCAPTCHA, a company that provides CAPTCHAs to protect websites from spam and fraud.

Google has acquired ReCaptcha, one of those companies behind the distorted text boxes at the bottom of many Web site sign-in pages.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Google plans to use ReCaptcha's technology both as a security measure within certain Google sites and to make its massive book-scanning project a little smarter, the company said in a blog post. ReCaptcha is an offshoot of Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science, and puts a twist on the traditional captcha: a string of letters in squiggly text meant to confuse spam bots and other nonhuman Web pests.

The idea behind a captcha is to confuse a computer, but computers are also confused by some words written in fonts used long ago. ReCaptcha offers two words, one of which is a captcha it already knows, and one of which is a word it doesn't know. The thinking is that if you get the first word right, you're likely a human and you're also probably going to get the second one right.

Facebook Begins Testing Facebook Lite, A Faster Simpler Version Of The Service: Facebook has invited some of its users to try out a simpler faster version of Facebook.
It looks like Facebook has tonight turned on a feature called “Facebook Lite” for some users to test out. We’re getting bombarded by tips about it, and some of us are seeing it as well. Unfortunately, it appears that it may not be fully ready for prime time yet, but we have more information and what looks to be a screenshot below, so keep reading.
TechCrunch has posted an official response from Facebook
We are currently testing a simplified alternative to Facebook.com that loads a specific set of features quickly and efficiently. Similar to the Facebook experience you get on your mobile phones, Facebook “Lite” is a fast-loading, simplified version of Facebook that enables people to make comments, accept Friend requests, write on people’s Walls, and look at photos and Status updates. We are currently testing Facebook Lite in countries where we are seeing lots of new users coming to Facebook for the first time and are looking to start off with a more simple experience.

This evening, the test was temporarily exposed to a larger set of users by mistake. We have not opened up access to lite.facebook.com to all users at this time. People who are not part of the test and are trying to access “Lite” will be directed to Facebook.com as usual.

Oh, my! Singapore Press Holdings website steals from Red Sports: Red Sports has brought to our attention that www.omy.sg was using one of Red Sports' photos in its article without permission. OMY even cropped off the Red Sports copyrigth watermark from the photo.

Click here to see the photo in Red Sports and the one posted by OMY.
One of our volunteers spotted the report below on www.news.omy.sg. See the picture? Doesn’t it look exactly like the Red Sports picture, also shown below?

As if taking the picture isn’t bad enough, they covered their tracks by cropping off the copyright watermark – “© REDSPORTS.SG” – from the bottom right of the picture. They gave information about the date of the picture, the context of the picture but – oh, my! – failed to mention where the picture came from.

What part of “© REDSPORTS.SG” did they not understand?

The photo was taken by Marvin Lowe, a Red Sports volunteer, who confirmed that Omy did not at any time seek his permission to use the photo. And given the circumstances of the story, we think the infringement is especially vile. A young girl died tragically. Was omy so eager to give a face to the story that they would stoop so low as to rip off someone else’s picture?

At the bottom of the www.omy.sg website, there is a line that says: SPH Copyright ©

The OMY article (snapshot taken by Red Sports)

The above photo taken by Marvin Lowe and first posted here, with the Red Sports copyright watermark was cropped off in the OMY article.
