The first time I shat in Singapore’s airport, I was awe-struck. It was clean. It was spacious. It smelled pleasantly floral. The experience was so wholly enrapturing that I literally did not want to leave, so I didn’t–not for at least 10 excessive minutes, leaving V. to wait outside, possibly confused and worried, while I jotted down the following notes: I have pooed in Ben Gurion, peed in Beijing, brushed my teeth in Schiphol and thrown up in Incheon...I can say, then, with what little authority I wield as a travel blogger, that the nicest airport may well be Changi International in Singapore, and its bathrooms are as pure a reflection of this as the reflection of myself in said bathroom’s pristine porcelain bowl.

The Canadian Parliament apparently has a strict code for House of Commons attire. An alert Googler discovered a discrepancy between a Google thumbnail of Rathika Sitsabaiesan, a new M.P., and her official parliamentary photograph: the Google thumbnail shows her in a lower-cut shirt than her official parliamentary photo, though identical in all other respects. It’s unclear whether the old picture was Photoshopped by Sitsabaiesan’s office or the parliamentary website. Sitsabaiesan, 29, is the first Tamil-Canadian M.P. to be elected.

Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air cancel flights because of computer problems

Alaska Airlines and its Horizon Air affiliate are canceling dozens of flights today because their computer system failed.

Seattle-based Alaska Airlines flies to cities in the U.S., focusing on the West Coast, and to Canada and Mexico.

Company spokesman Paul McElroy says the two airlines canceled 60 flights Saturday morning, six hours after the outage started. The airline will rebook passengers without a fee. It says customers should call the airline to check on their flight before going to the airport. McElroy says the airline has been able to operate about 20 flights during the day. He says the cause of the computer problem isn't known but technicians are working on it.

Facebook users 'are insecure, narcissistic and have low self-esteem': Using Facebook is the online equivalent of staring at yourself in the mirror, according to a study, which was published in the journal Cyberpsychology, Behaviour And Social Networking. Researcher Soraya Mehdizadeh from York University in Canada conducted the study on 100 students.

Those who spent more time updating their profile on the social networking site were more likely to be narcissists, said researchers.

Facebook provides an ideal setting for narcissists to monitor their appearance and how many ‘friends’ they have, the study said, as it allows them to thrive on ‘shallow’ relationships while avoiding genuine warmth and empathy.

They also tend to use the site for promoting themselves to friends or people they would like to meet, the study concluded.

Researcher Soraya Mehdizadeh from York University in Canada asked 100 students, 50 male and 50 female, aged between 18 and 25 about their Facebook habits.

They all took psychology tests to measure their levels of narcissism, which the study defined as ‘a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and an exaggerated sense of self-importance’. Those who scored higher on the narcissism test checked their Facebook pages more often each day than those who did not. There was also a difference between men and women – men generally promoted themselves by written posts on their Facebook page while women tended to carefully select the pictures in their profile.

The findings, published in the journal Cyberpsychology, Behaviour And Social Networking, also suggested that those with low self-esteem also checked their Facebook pages more regularly than normal.

Pilot survives after CF-18 crashes, burns at Lethbridge airport: Capt. Brian Bews ejected moments before his twin-engine CF-18 aircraft exploded during an airshow training in Lethbridge Calgary. The video below was captured by someone at the scene.

The fighter jet pilot injured Friday in Lethbridge when his CF-18 crashed during airshow training is expected to remain in hospital under observation for a few more days, says a Canadian Forces spokeswoman.

Capt. Brian Bews was whisked away by ambulance after he ejected moments before his twin-engine aircraft exploded in a massive fireball on the airfield at Lethbridge County Airport.

A talented young Canadian for the Ferrari Driver Academy: The Ferrari Driver Academy has taken on a new talent, this time coming from Canada. At just eleven years of age, Lance Stroll, born on 29 October 1998 in Montreal (Quebec), is the youngest driver to enter the Maranello program.

The Ferrari Driver Academy has taken on a new talent, this time coming from Canada. At just eleven years of age, Lance Stroll, born on 29 October 1998 in Montreal (Quebec), is the youngest driver to enter the Maranello program.

Although very young, Lance’s karting curriculum is already impressive enough to have attracted the attention of the Ferrari Driving Academy: already on his record are two wins in the Canadian national championship in the Rotax Mini Max category as well as Coupe de Montreal and Coupe du Quebec Micro Max Championship in 2008 and both Mini Max Championships in 2009. Last year, Lance finished sixth in the World Finals at Lonato in the Mini Roc category and second in the Rotax Micro Max Florida Winter Tour, a series he won this year in Mini Max along with the championships for the Tag/Cadet Florida Winter Tour. It is no surprise therefore that Lance was nominated by the Fedération Sport Automobile du Quebec as Rookie of the Year in 2008 and Driver of the Year the following year.

Murder Suspect Ryan Jenkins Found Dead of Apparent Suicide: Ryan Alexander Jenkins was found dead in a motel room in Canada. Investigation into the murder of his wife, Jasmine Fiore, still continues.

A week after his wife was found dead in a gruesome murder in California, former VH1 reality-show contestant Ryan Alexander Jenkins was discovered hanging from a coat rack in a motel room in Canada on Sunday. According to CNN, Jenkins, 32, who was charged with his wife Jasmine Fiore's slaying on Thursday, died in an apparent suicide at the Thunderbird Motel in Hope, British Columbia.

Man to get tattoos of every national flag on his body: Guiness Rishi wants to enter the Guinness Book of World Records by tatooing the flags of all the countries in the world on his body inclusing his private parts. Mr Rishi already has tattoos of the Canada, Union Jack, India, USA, Cyprus and the Indian Congress Party flags on his forehead.

Mr Rishi, 67, is planning to cover himself in 220 different banners in his quest to become a walking global flag-pole. Already sporting six tattoos, Canada, Union Jack, India, USA, Cyprus and the Indian Congress Party, on his face, Guinness, who changed his name in honour of the famous record book, believes that he will complete his challenge in three years. He plans to cover his head and face with the most important one-inch flags before inking from his neck down in alphabetical order.

Mr Rishi said,

I will get eight tattoos done on bony areas such as my face each month and up to 16 on fleshy areas such as my stomach. I am tattooing my entire body including my private parts, but I am not sure which flag I will be sticking there. In the first phase, I believe that I can put 60 tattoos on my head and then we will start working on my body. People consider me an extraordinary person, not an ordinary person. People who have no money wish to do something in their lives, so the poor people try to break records by their strength or their will.

I sincerely hope Mr Rishi should re-consider tattooing flags on and around his private parts and bum bum.

Mysterious UFO Crashes Into the Ottawa River Monday Night: Dozens of residents of Canada’s capital city, Ottawa Ontario and nearby Gatineau, Que., witnessed an object streak across the night sky at about 10pm local time Monday night and crash into the Ottawa River with a “thunderous boom.”

The object had lights on it and appeared to change course several times, like a small plane struggling to stay airborn, before it hit the water.

It was such a sight that emergency rescue and search crews in the area sprung into action and began searching the area using sophisticated sonars and underwater cameras to try and figure out what the object was. Even helicopters from the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) in nearby Trenton took part. On Tuesday at 1:30pm, they discovered an object about 9 meters (30 feet) below the surface, but because of currents and nearby rapids, sending divers down would be extremely dangerous since they would be instantly swept away by the currents.

The mystery? Authorities and residents have no idea what this object laying at the bottom of the river is. There are no planes missing from the area, no other aircraft like helicopters, etc. are missing. There is no derbis, no oil slick and even space agencies that were contacted said nothing disappeared from orbit.

Hong Kong reports new H3N2 flu variant: Hong Kong has found a new variant of the H3N2 seasonal influenza virus, a direct descendant of the Brisbane strain.

Hong Kong has found a new variant of the H3N2 seasonal influenza virus, the spokesman for the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) said on Wednesday, urging high-risk groups to get influenza vaccinations. The new variant is direct descendent of the Brisbane strain which has been the prevalent circulating strain of H3N2 in the past year in Hong Kong, CHP Controller Dr Thomas Tsang said.

However, it has some genetic changes distinguishing it from the old Brisbane strain. Overseas health authorities, including those in Canada, Britain and Australia, have also found the new variant. There is no evidence showing that the H3 variant circulating in Hong Kong is more severe and resistant to oseltamivir (Tamiflu).
