The saga of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 took a new turn yesterday following latest revelations that the Malaysian military had been told to keep an eye on the plane but had allowed it to disappear off their radar after considering it as non-hostile.

The new revelation was made by acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein during an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corp's Four Corners programme.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has landed himself in the soup after reproaching Malaysians for blaming the government when food prices go up and not being appreciative when food prices drop.

In a YouTube video that has gone viral, Mr Najib was seen saying in Malay: "When prices of things go up, everything goes up, including sawi (mustard green) and kangkong (water spinach). There are times when the prices of vegetables go up and down.

"Today I read in the newspaper that the prices of some things have dropped. The price of kangkong increased before this and now it has gone down," he added.

"When this happens, they don't want to praise the government. But when it rises, they blame the government... This is not fair as it is due to weather conditions."

A fire broke out at Marina Bay Suites, leaving two dead. The two victims are Ms Sooria Kala Kanaseon, a 34-year-old Malaysian, and Mr Sim Lai Huat, a 58-year-old Singaporean. They were security officers at Marina Bay Suites.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Dave Ramsay and his friend visited Kuala Lumpur and were robbed near the Hard Rock Cafe on 5 Oct.

"Chest stabbed 6 inches below shoulder."

On Saturday (5th Oct 2013) we were mugged very near the Hard Rock Cafe. The mode of this mugging was to pull on a bag and when I turned round I was stabbed in the chest with a knife, while turning. This is a stab first rob later mode of attack. At first I thought I had been punched, my friend held onto her bag and I started to assist only to be slashed with the knife across my right arm - that was when I saw blood spraying out my chest I told her to let the bag go as her head/kneck was closest to the knife. The robber fled with the bag. I think we were marked and then surrounded as some of the "local concerned helpers" were actually trying to pull me clear....

By 2030, only about half of the population will be core Singaporeans. Most of the rest will be foreigners, who will not be required to enlist for national service. With a bigger 6.9 million population, Singapore’s dilemma over a declining reservist army will be over by 2030, shouldn’t it? Theoretically, the answer is yes. Surely you can’t have one of the world’s most over-crowded cities that impose military service for all 18-year-old boys running short of soldiers.

A photograph of two Malaysian cousins kidnapped by Filipino gunmen in Lahad Datu in November has surfaced, raising hopes that the two hostages are still alive.

A photograph of Chong Wei Fei, a 33-year-old plantation manager, and Chong Wei Jie, a 25-year-old assistant manager, was delivered by a contact to The Star Online via email on Thursday. In the photograph, the two Chongs are seeing holding up a sign stating "March 7, 2013" while the kidnappers have their guns trained on them.

The state government will impose higher tax rates for about 130,000 foreigners who own properties in the state.

Johor Mentri Besar Mohamed Khaled said the rates were still being discussed, but the new rates would be imposed by the end of the year. Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled added that a re-evaluation exercise would also be conducted statewide as the last formal evaluation was done in the '80s.

Mr Mohamed Khaled said the state had no intention of increasing the financial burden of the people but also needed to increase the returns to ensure that the local councils can provide better facilities and services for the locals.

Leong Pei Koe, a Malaysian working in Singapore, was jailed and fined RM$8,000 for flipping the finger at the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah. The incident happened on 11 Feb at the Bayan Lepas International Airport.
