Total Solar Eclipse of 2009 July 22: Using the Solar Eclipse Calculator at NASA, the eclipse will occur on Wednesday between 08:40:51 AM to 09:43:55 AM Singapore time.

On Wednesday, 2009 July 22, a total eclipse of the Sun is visible from within a narrow corridor that traverses half of Earth. The path of the Moon's umbral shadow begins in India and crosses through Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and China. After leaving mainland Asia, the path crosses Japan's Ryukyu Islands and curves southeast through the Pacific Ocean where the maximum duration of totality reaches 6 min 39 s. A partial eclipse is seen within the much broader path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which includes most of eastern Asia, Indonesia, and the Pacific Ocean
According to Shanghai Daily, Jinshan City Beach in Shanghai is the best spot to catch the eclipse.
NASA says suburban Shanghai will be one of the best spots in the world to catch Wednesday's astronomical phenomenon, reports Tan Weiyun.

Jinshan City Beach may be the best spot in Shanghai to catch the total solar eclipse next Wednesday.

According to a report from the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration, one of the better places to catch the eclipse is in Shanghai's suburban Jinshan District, which is along the Hangzhou Bay.

So far the beach's management committee has signed deals with more than 45 international travel agencies and astronomy groups, arranging for more than 1,300 people from 12 countries and regions to see the eclipse on Wednesday.

Thousands flock to see 'Buddha Boy' in Nepalese jungle
Thousands of pilgrims have flocked to a remote jungle in southeast Nepal after a 17-year-old boy whom some believe to be a reincarnation of the Buddha emerged after more than a year in the forest.

Ram Bahadur Bamjan appeared on Monday to preach in a temple in Ratanpur, southeast of Kathmandu. Dubbed “Buddha Boy” by the press, and dismissed as a charlatan by some, the teenager first garnered headlines in 2005 when tens of thousands of devotees travelled to see him as he sat crosslegged amid the roots of a tree for nearly ten months without, it was claimed, food or water.

Sir Edmund Percival Hillary (20 July 1919 – 11 January 2008)

Everest hero Edmund Hillary dies: Sir Edmund Hillary, the first climber to scale the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, has died aged 88. New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark described the explorer as a heroic figure and said all New Zealanders would deeply mourn his passing. Sir Edmund's health had reportedly been in decline since April, when he suffered a fall while visiting Nepal. He was the first man to climb the 8,850m (29,035ft) peak, with Tenzing Norgay, on 29 May 1953.
